HAIR TYPE: ALL
BEST FOR: DETANGLING HAIR
I’m sure we’ve all seen this brush somewhere or even have it, the paddle brush is known for its ability to quickly detangle hair with ease and comfort due to its sturdy yet flexible bristles. Not only does its flat, wide, rectangular surface allow the brush to move with your control but it also provides exceptionally smooth results without breaking the natural pattern of wavy and curly hair.

For my naturally straight girls this is also a great brush to get your hair quickly dry with your blow dryer giving you tangled free straight hair without the use of your straightener afterwards.

HAIR TYPE: NORMAL, MEDIUM TO THICK

BEST FOR: BLOWOUTS

With the proper round brush and a lot of practice, and I do mean a lot of practice with a combination of lots of upper body strength, you can too nail a freshly salon blow dry look at home. Typically, round brushes are made with a metal or iconic barrel which heat up when used with a blow dryer (think about the roundness of the blow dryer combine with the heat like your curling iron). The round brush helps tame frizz and delivers the desired amount of bounce to your hair.

Now when choosing a round brush, size matters!! Round brushes are ideal for creating volume and body in your hair, the difference of size is that when the brush has a smaller barrel, it creates tighter curls, while brushes with larger barrels are known to straighten hair and create subtle (beach-like) waves.

Keep in mind how long your hair is as well, for long hair you wouldn’t want to be using a really small brush even if it’s to create tight curls because it will take too long and for short hair you also would want a big barreled brush because it wouldn’t dry your hair as well. Just like Goldilocks you have to fight the right one.

HAIR TYPE: ALL

BEST FOR: ADDING VOLUME

When using a teasing brush always keep in mind to go slow and be careful for it can also easily tangle up the hair. A teasing brush is amazing at creating volume at your root area as well as the illusion of fullness to the hair.

This brush would also be your go to when adding texture to ponytails, volume for updos, or to create a firm base at the roots for clip in hair extensions.

Again, always keep in mind not to tease your hair too often since this technique is a bit harsh on your hair and for my fine hair girls or chemically fragile hair I would try to avoid this brush altogether.

HAIR TYPE: ALL (EVEN BETTER FOR MY CURLY HAIR PEOPLE)

BEST FOR: DETANGLING WET HAIR

When hair is wet it is at a more delicate state then when it is when it’s dry, hair can stretch more easily then normal so to prevent breakage this wide tooth comb does just that. Dude to it’s wide teeth it is able to pass through the hair and detangle it at a more nonaggressive way. Also if you typically use a hair mask, this comb is perfect for distributing product from root to end. One you have the mask in you hair, just run the comb from top to bottom to help even distribute the product into you hair.

Now for my curly heads out there, I cannot express to you how essential this brush is for you! If you did not already know detangling your hair wet (and with conditioner) is the best time to even dare put a brush to your hair. Your curls will love you when you use wide tooth comb to detangle your hair since it does not pull on your curl more then necessary, as you know putting the wrong brush on your curls will cause unnecessary breakage, frizzy and even cause your curls to the lay loser over time! After detangling pop in your favorite products the diffuse or air dry.

HAIR TYPE: ALL

BEST FOR: DETANGLING HAIR WET

This is yet another great brush for detangling hair while it’s wet. Since hair is prone to breakage when it’s wet, you’re going to want a brush that is specifically designed to release tangles. Wet brushes are typically made with wide-tooth soft flexible bristles that can easily undo stubborn knots painlessly and easily.

This is also a great brush to use with little ones since it avoids pulling on the hair too harshly, we all know how hard it is to detangle kids hair with no tears.

BEST FOR: CLEANSING/ EXFOLIATING SCALP

In preparation for optimal cleansing, dry brushing begins the cleansing process by exfoliating the scalp to help loosen build-up and impurities. This brushing technique also helps increase microcirculation, creating an optimal foundation for beautiful hair. It’s looped bristles massage without tangling hair. This scalp brush is best use with the pramāsana purifying scalp cleanser to give you the best results for your scalp and hair.

HAIR TYPE: ALL

BEST FOR: PARTING HAIR INTO SECTIONS

The rat tail comb gets its name from its long and skinny end, which is used to part the hair in precise, clean sections. The next time you decide to braid your hair you can use this comb to part equal sections, this way you create evenness and create a tight/ clean braid. You can also use this comb to backcomb hair to create some volume.
